Whatever's Write
Prose Workshop Group     Serving Southern New Jersey
Richard Russo ("Empire Falls," "Bridge of Sighs") at the Free Library of Philadelphia. 33:30 into the podcast he discusses writing and adapting writing to the screen. In fact, enjoy the entire series of podcasts.

In this 2003 podcast from the Free Library of Philadelphia's Author Events series, Joyce Carol Oates speaks about her book of essays, The Faith of a Writer, about the craft of writing, and Freaky Green Eyes, her second novel for young adults. She dispenses a lot of advice for writers generally throughout the podcast. In about three places, the audio drops out momentarily.

Here is an interesting resource for writers, from a moderated RSS feed called alltop.com. The site features reposts of articles and blogs from various places, and this is their writing section.

http://www.duotrope.com/ is a combination litmag database and online submission tracker, and it's free. Check it out!

The Whatever's Write prose writers' workshop group of South Jersey has been meeting continuously since 1995. We're a free group for journalists, storytellers, playwrights and writers of vignette and essays, literary and mass-market fiction, short-short fiction, memoir and children's literature. We serve southern New Jersey--Burlington County, Camden County, Gloucester County and beyond.

Our workshops:

* Foster camaraderie among writers
* Teach craft, provide feedback
* Provide respect and support
* Act as an informational network for contests, competitions, conferences, workshops and publishing possibilities

Why join a writers' group? Perhaps you are:

* Tired of writing alone and for no one.
* Tired of not having an outlet for solid, fair critiques and helpful criticism.
* Maybe you want the fellowship of other writers who understand your craft, your livelihood, your passion for what you do.

Whatever's Write's meetings are at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month at the William J. Rohrer Memorial Library,
15 MacArthur Blvd. in Haddon Township, NJ (directions: click here).

Contact Whatever's Write, at (856) 983-6966 or via e-mail, for more information about the group, or click on the "About Us" link at left to download our Welcome Packet and Prospective Member Questionnaire.

Writing Craft Resources
"Great readers are golden. We should treasure--that word is no exaggeration--treasure good readers. The cost of trying to write something worth reading is too high to be glib about this. You owe it to yourself, and your family, to show your work to the right reader, the one who can best help you see your work clearly--for what it is, not just for what it isn't."
-- Ann Darby, in a letter to Poets & Writers magazine, (July/August 2009)
Next Meeting: Thursday, June 7, 2012
